The distinctiveness and effectiveness of Glapthorn CE Lower School

as a Church of England school is outstanding.

The distinctiveness and effectiveness of this Church of England school are evident in its focus on worship and commitment to promoting pupils’ spiritual development. Excellent links exist between the school, the local parish church and the community.

The school, through its distinctive Christian character, is outstanding at meeting the needs of all learners.

The school makes excellent provision to meet the needs of all its learners through its strong Christian ethos. The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstanding. Good and caring provision is made for pupils with special needs who perform well. Virtually all of the learners do well and fulfil their potential. Teaching and non-teaching staff feel involved and valued. There is a range of extra-curricular activities which are much appreciated by pupils. This enriches the curriculum and also demonstrates to children the value that is placed on each individual in the school community.

The impact of collective worship on the school community is outstanding.

Worship occupies a very important place in school life and is a vital aspect of its Christian character. Acts of worship are well planned by the headteacher and are imaginatively delivered. Collective worship is led by all members of the teaching staff, as well as the headteacher and the vicar. The school takes care to ensure that acts of worship provide for spiritual and moral development of the whole community.

The effectiveness of the leadership and management of the school as a church school is outstanding.

The headteacher, who has been in post since September 2008, has worked hard to move the school forward. His leadership contributes significantly to the success of the school. The most obvious effect of this when visiting the school is that all of the staff spoken to felt valued and supported as team members and were prepared to contribute ideas for the development of the school. As a result the children and parents also feel valued and secure. It is a school which encourages children to learn and develop, this has led to excellent standards and attitudes.
